The Founder

Bethany Shum (HCPC, MCSP)

Performing Arts Physiotherapist, Pain Coach, Educator and Researcher.

Hello

My name is Bethany Shum

I'm a Chartered Physiotherapist (HCPC, MCSP) in UK and HK who is passionate about movements, flexibility and pain science. 💕

Having been a former gymnast, aerialist, and cheerleader, I came across countless amount of pain conditions and injuries from both myself and my athletic friends.

I have always been passionate to support performers and my first opportunity to work with elite sports was with Team England Adaptive Ability Cheerleaders in 2019-2020. And then I went on and completed the specialist Performing Arts Medicine MSc Programme at UCL to enhance my skills when working with elite performers and provide specialist health services to this population. I am now the physiotherapist for the National Centre for Circus Arts, the UK-only university degree programme in Circus.

I created "@flexiblility_matters" to support this community I love through health education, pain coaching, research and physiotherapy.🤸‍♀️

My mission is to empower performers of all abilities to be the best version of themselves and live a rich and meaningful life.🤹

My Vision:

I want to support you to heal and recover quicker with movements so you won’t need to “google: how long does it take to recover from [Your condition] ” and suffer with anxiety and uncertainty around your pain and injury.  ✨✨

I look forward to continuing to support the performance/acrobatic community and developing more research in this area!!!! Thank you all for being part of my journey and mission to support more performers!!  Xxx
